In a major step towards enhancing digital payment flexibility and inclusivity, NPCI BHIM Services Ltd (NBSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has introduced the ‘UPI Circle’ feature on the BHIM app. This groundbreaking functionality empowers users to securely delegate UPI payment rights to trusted individuals, enabling seamless, controlled transactions while maintaining oversight.
What is UPI Circle?
The UPI Circle feature allows a primary user to authorize up to five secondary users to initiate UPI payments from their account. Every transaction initiated by a secondary user must be explicitly approved by the primary user through their UPI PIN on the BHIM app, ensuring complete transparency, security, and real-time control over delegated transactions.
Key Benefits of UPI Circle
-
Empowering Senior Citizens: Family members can assist elderly relatives who may be hesitant or unfamiliar with digital payments by approving transactions on their behalf.
-
Supporting Young Adults: Parents can enable children to manage educational or daily expenses through controlled and responsible financial access.
-
Facilitating Small Businesses: Business owners can delegate operational payment responsibilities, such as fuel or vendor payments, to trusted staff while maintaining transaction accountability.
-
Assisting Digitally Inexperienced Users: Working professionals can securely assist dependents or individuals less adept with digital platforms by providing a monitored payment mechanism.
How to Use UPI Circle on BHIM
-
Download the Latest BHIM App: Ensure you have the updated version installed.
-
Access UPI Circle: Open the app and navigate to the ‘UPI Circle’ section from the home screen or main menu.
-
Add Secondary Users: Tap on ‘Add Secondary User’ and enter their UPI ID or scan their QR code.
-
Set Delegation Type: Select ‘Approve Every Payment’ (Partial Delegation) for real-time transaction control.
-
Secondary User Acceptance: The secondary user will receive a request. Upon acceptance, they can initiate payments, subject to real-time approval by the primary user.
Driving Financial Inclusion and Digital Empowerment
UPI Circle marks a significant advancement in making digital payments more accessible, flexible, and secure. By enabling trusted delegation with real-time oversight, NBSL’s new feature caters to the diverse needs of families, businesses, and individuals, further strengthening India’s digital payment landscape.
